The Never Ending Split Ends Saga
Your alarm clock goes off. You get out of bed and trudge to the bathroom. You look in the mirror and grab the ends of your hair, which are frazzled, frayed, and fried. You then say “oh man… I need a trim…”. You get a trim. Two weeks later…

Your alarm clock goes off.
WAKE UP! Does this sound like you? Are you constantly looking at your drab ends and getting your hair trimmed? Well, it’s good that you’re getting your hair trimmed to try to keep it healthy, but obviously that isn’t working, which can be especially frustrating when you’re trying to grow your hair out. Trimming split ends isn’t the only or the best solution for the split end problem, you need to prevent split ends from occurring in the first place.
There are several bad habits that can contribute to your split hair ends. They include:
Brushing Wet Hair
You should never, EVER, use a brush on wet hair! If you have to detangle your hair while it is wet you should use a comb, starting at the bottom of the hair and gently working your way to the scalp. It is also a good idea to use a detangle spray or leave-in conditioner to help protect the hair while you are combing it, especially if your hair is thick, curly or tangles easily.
Heat Styling without using protection
Curling irons, flat irons and blow driers are hair murderers! They show absolutely no mercy when it comes to styling your hair, but are complete necessities to a lot of people (including me). You don’t have to stop using these very handy tools, just do your hair a favor and start using a heat protecting spray before you use them. They’re not very expensive and if you pick the right one, it won’t weigh down your hair or make it sticky. Some sprays also act like a hairspray, which can be awesome, or not. Just pick what’s right for you and your style. I like to use Kevin Murphy’s Damage Manager
Over-use of chemical treatments
Dying your hair can be a lot of fun, in moderation. You should only be dying your hair (I’m talking all-over color) about every three or fours months at the most. Touching up the roots can be done more frequently. Protect your hair from the chemical damage as much as your can! Use color protecting shampoos and conditioner and a color protecting spray.
Cheap styling tools and cheap hair products and cheap scissors.
If you’re using less-than-professional products, you’re going to get less-than-professional hair care. It goes back to that really great saying “You get what you pay for”. Completely true. All the time. I can’t think of a time when someone has said this to me and it hasn’t been true. It covers all aspects of hair care as well; from products to styling tools to hair cuts. There is a reason you are being charged more. Hair is the only accessory you wear everyday. Spend a little more time and a little more money on it. You won’t be sorry.
Teasing & backcombing
Sometimes, a girl just needs to have some big hair. I get it. But teasing your hair, also called backcombing, is extraordinarily damaging to your hair. You are combing the hair against its natural growth pattern, which can cause the cuticle to tear away, resulting in breakage or split ends. White Sands has a great new product that totally eliminates the need to backcomb your hair called Liquid Texture. Check it out. It will save you a lot of time and damage.
Prevent and Heal your Spit Ends With the Following Products:
Some people will tell you that you cannot repair split ends, and to an extent this is true. Hair is a dead fiber, once it has been damaged there is no restoring it back to 100 percent health. So how can you heal split ends? Certain products are available that will strengthen the hair from the inside and/or coat the outside of the hair. Strengthening and coating the hair will help discourage the hair from splitting further up the hair shaft. By doing this, you can avoid trimming your hair as frequently and can grow your hair out faster. You’re not healing the split end, you’re just sealing it to prevent it from further tearing. These types of split ends treatments need to be applied daily, as they will wash out with every shampoo. You’ll still need to get your hair trimmed, but you’ll be able to wait longer in-between trips to the salon and you’ll actually have a shot at growing your hair out.
Strengthen your hair from the inside, keeping it strong so that it is less susceptible to damage and breakage with White Sands ER Fusion.
Protect your hair from the outside, sealing down the hair cuticle, preventing the hair from splintering further up the hair shaft with White Sands The Cure.
Keep your hair soft and bendable so that environmental damagers, like pollution, wind etc, don’t cause your hair to break by using White Sands Orchids Oil or Argan Oil.
