Sooooo…. here’s the story.

After two years and three months my boyfriend and I have split. The result? Me living with my mother again, which hasn’t happend in about 4 years.
Also simultaneously occuring? My parents divorce. It’s interesting times these… 2010 sure is kicking off with a bang…

Staying with my mom again isn’t so bad… well … except for one thing. HARD WATER. Oh. My. Goodness.

The first day I’m down there I go to take a shower… and my hair literally HURT. I shampoo my hair once… and it just doesn’t feel good. I shampoo again… and it feels WORSE. So I throw on a healthy, well, more than healthy, does of conditioner. I mean, I REALLY put too much conditioner on. I wait my 3-5 minutes, and then rinse. NO IMPROVEMENT. No seriously. It was like not only the world, but now also my hair had decided to hate me.

Here’s how I knew that Hard Water was the evil culprit behind the demise of my hair.

Normally, after just shampooing my hair, it feels better. After my initial shampoo, it becomes easier to scrub and really get my fingers into my hair and get my scalp nice and clean. Even before conditioning it starts to feel smooth in the water and happy. Then when I condition, I can already comb the conditioner through my hair with my fingers and easily work it into my scalp. After rinsing the conditioner, my hair is nice and smooth in the water, like a mermaid

That first shower at my moms house must have thrown my hair into shock. After the first shampoo my hair didn’t feel good. It felt like it was still fighting me, like it wasn’t getting clean at all. After the second shampoo it felt stringy, and like the hair was clumping together. Conditioning didn’t really seem to help at all.

After this awful shower, I asked my mom if she had hard water. Her response was “Yes we have hard water. I asked your father to install a water softener years ago but did he? No!….” ahhh….fun times.

After hearing this, a revelation occured to me. All these years of living at my mom’s house, I thought I had bad hair. I thought I was just cursed with this awful, dry, frizzy, nasty coif. The gene gods had not smiled upon me. NOW… I realize it was just Hard Water!

Just Hard Water, you say. JUST Hard Water!? Well… yes. JUST Hard Water. You don’t need to spend $500 on installing a water softener in your house to fix your Hard Water Times. You just need the right shampoo!

My current mission is also to convince my mother that she needs to use not only Shampoo, but Conditioner as well, as she currently is not. AND to convince her to stop using a certain nasty brand of shampoo that rhymes with Mauve.
