Color Correction Without Adding Damage?

Before & After pics of Color Correction Using Shampoo

"Only Paolo can take THIS...and THIS...and give you...a Princess." ~The Princess Diaries

CEST POSIBLE!!!

Okay, so here’s the story. My Kid Sister loves changing her hair on the fly. One week she’s a brunette, the next a blonde, the next she’s black. I too love to change my hair color as the mood strikes. I’ve gone from brunette to highlights to blonde to blonde with pink to red to brunette again to black with racoon stripes back to brunette. There are, however, three MAJOR differences about our hair changing habbits:

1. I get my hair color in a salon…she does hers at home from boxes and bottles
2. I color my hair every three or four months at the most frequent…she colors her hair without waiting so much as a week in between sometimes
3.  I take better care of my hair, using quality products, leave-in keratin treatment, deep conditioning treatment and heat protecting spray…she has started using a better daily conditioner…but…that’s about it

So her hair is qutie damaged. The last time her and I spoke about her hair, I told her she needed to stop dying it and let it grow out so she could cut off the super nasty parts. But impatience and boredom Read more »

Hayden Panettiere….a red head?

Hayden Panettiere has decided to explore the wonderful world of hair color! How exciting! or…is it?

Hayden Panettiere New Red HairHayden is best known as the blonde bombshell cheerleader on the TV shows Heroes (which I loved up until season three…and then they lost me…).  Her beautiful blonde hair is basically her trademark on the show. So how is her color switch going to affect the show? Who knows!? And maybe…who cares!? She’s young and she can do what she wants as far as I’m concerned. You do what you want Hayden!

But the question is…is the red a good choice? And, is Hayden going to Read more »

Abba Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

Abba Pure Moisture Shampoo

Abba Pure Moisture Shampoo

So if you read my last blog, you’ll know that I switched to a Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner. It was the Abba Pure Moisture Shampoo and Abba Pure Moisture Conditioner. I picked this particular shampoo because it was affordable (both were about $12 a bottle) and because my hair is always SUPER dry…so Moisture was definitely the way to go.

Abba’s other options are:
Color Protect – obviously for colored/dyed hair, which I don’t have
Volume – for adding volume to thin/fine hair, which I don’t have
Daily – a more gentle formula for daily washers who are worried about damage from frequent shampooing
Gentle – for sensitive scalps, again…not me

So I only based my choice on what I needed, which IS what you are supposed to do when picking a shampoo. However, I was in such a rush when picking it up that Read more »

Switching to Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Ok, so if you haven’t heard by now, Sulfate-Free Shampoos are all the rage. Companies everywhere are switching to Sulfate-Free formulas. Why? BECAUSE SULFATES ARE EVIL!!!….or…are they?

Sulfates are the main active cleaning agent found in your shampoo. They are the reason your shampoo foams/bubbles/lathers, which makes you think and feel that your shampoo is working. First of all, you don’t actually need a super-lathering shampoo in order to get your hair clean. The lather really is just a show your shampoo is putting on for you to reassure you that it’s doing its job. If you’re thinking of switching to sulfate-free shampoo you can say bye-bye to all that soapy lather.

So why does everyone hate Sulfates all of a sudden? What did they do? Well…they also appear in ENGINE DEGREASER. EW!…right? I mean that sounds gross…I don’t want to pour engine degreaser all over me.

Everyone seems to think that sulfates are going to cause us harm, mainly because of the other types of products they are used in. The fact is that Read more »
